The Four Kinds of Sentences

The Free Cozy Grammar Newsletter with Marie Rackham and Thomas Hitoshi Pruiksma

Did you know that there are only four basic kinds of sentences?

One of the things Marie understood so well was how to take subjects as seemingly complicated as grammar and punctuation and break them down into simple, cozy, and easy-to-follow lessons.

Take, for instance, Lesson 1 of the Basic Cozy Grammar Course. There she uses clear and concrete examples from life in her cozy beach cottage to illustrate the four kinds of sentences: assertive, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.

Do those four terms sound intimidating? They won't after you watch Marie's lesson. Take a peek!

Grammar and Punctuation go Together

I love how Marie uses examples from daily life to illustrate something that could otherwise appear complicated.

She does the same thing in her Basic Cozy Punctuation Course. There she tootles around Campbell River, B.C. in her trusty Camino to show how punctuation marks are like language traffic signs.

She even gives handy punctuation poems to help students remember what the different punctuation marks do.

In fact, rather than sharing a video from me this month, I wanted to share a second video from Marie instead, so you can see how well her Basic Cozy Grammar Course and her Basic Cozy Punctuation Course go together.

In this excerpt from Lesson 1 of the Basic Cozy Punctuation Course, she gives a wonderfully easy-to-follow explanation of how to use exclamation marks at the end of exclamatory sentences.

Take a peek, and I'll tell you how you can win a free lifetime subscription to both these beloved basic courses this month.

Four Kinds of Connections

Before I close, I wanted to mention that in addition to signing up for our courses, we offer four other ways to connect with Cozy Grammar.

The first way is one you already know—this newsletter!

But did you know we also have a Cozy Grammar YouTube channel? There you can find a library of all our free video excerpts. We release additional excerpts every month, so stay subscribed to this newsletter or subscribe to our channel to be the first to know about them.

The third way is our Cozy Grammar Facebook page. In addition to videos and announcements, we post special mini-lessons there each month.

Finally, we also have a Cozy Grammar Instagram account, where we share pictures from our courses and from behind the scenes.

If you use any of these other platforms, do feel free to connect with us there.

And don't forget to enter our drawing!

Thanks so much for joining us this month, and we'll see you again soon!
